Sandburg Youth Cross Country, Soccer Camps Taking Place This Summer

Young athletes can get firsthand instruction from Carl Sandburg College coaches and players this summer at sports camps for cross country and soccer.

Campers will learn the fundamentals of their sport(s), with an emphasis on having fun. Camps will be led by Chargers men’s and women’s cross country coach Rodney Blue and men’s soccer coach Kevwe Akpore, both of whom have decades of experience at the collegiate level. Current Chargers student-athletes will assist with individual instruction at some camps. Campers must meet the required age before the camp date

CROSS COUNTRY
June 22-24
Practice proper warm-up, stretching, pacing, breathing, striding, arm carriage and cool-down. Camp takes place 5-6 p.m. June 22-24 on Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg. Open to ages 9-14 years old. Led by Chargers coach Rodney Blue. Early camp registration cost is $30 and includes a T-shirt. Early registration deadline is noon June 8. Students may continue to register for $30 after the deadline date; however, no T-shirt will be provided. Rain location is John M. Lewis Gymnasium on Sandburg’s Main Campus.

SOCCER
Aug. 7-8
Practice juggling, receiving, passing and playing variable games. Camp also includes a focus on proper warm-ups. Camp takes place from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 7-8 at the Knox County YMCA soccer complex. Open to ages 5-10. Led by Chargers men’s soccer coach Kevwe Akpore and assisted by members of the Sandburg men’s soccer team. Early camp registration cost is $35 and includes a T-shirt. Early registration deadline is noon July 26. Students may continue to register for $35 after the deadline date; however, no T-shirt will be provided. Rain date is Aug. 14-15 at the Knox County YMCA soccer complex.
